So today was the day Layna was suppose to get her ears pierced. I hyped it up for months and she was super excited. I was feeling on edge all day feeling like I was making her grow up too fast. I know they are only earrings but still the fact that she was going to have holes in her ears really started to bother me. We arrived at the doctors office and I told Layna that the piercing would hurt a tiny bit. She seemed a little nervous but alright with it. The nurse came in and started to talk to me about it. I told the nurse that I would be okay with her talking me out of it. She said that the first hole she would probably sit still for but the second I would have to restrain her. She asked if I was ready for that.....I responded....."Nope, we will come back when shes older." As we were leaving, Layna said " Layna's ears pierced." I responded with "No honey, we will come back when your older because it is going to hurt a lot." She then says "Yep, hurt a lot not a tiny bit." I am so relieved she agrees...LOL.
She can wear stick-ons for now so I can preserve her innocence.
This was taken at the doctors office on Layna's big day!
About Me

- Why a simple kind of life? Well, thats what my husband and I are trying to instill in our family. We are Christians and living a simple life is what God wants for us. I say trying because that is what we are doing. We need to keep that in the forefront of our minds as we go through all the crazy yet unforgettable days a family of four goes through. Life is very busy with a smart and inquisitive four yearold, active, curious, funny 2 1/2 year old and a new baby. As teachers, we enjoy our summers off with our children spending time at the beach, boating or just in our backyard relaxing. We know what and Who is important in this life, but we also can admit that we do enjoy things that don’t really matter like reality TV, good food and my weakness, shopping. All in all its all about balance and keeping God first.
Was searching for a GF's blog on and came across yours. Started reading and had to laugh at your recent comment about " The big day has come and gone." I had the same experience when I first took our dd to have the pierced at the ped. I admit that I got cold feet and thought I'd wait till our little 2 yr old really wanted them.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't take long. She wore out pages of stick on earrings and started playing with mine as well. One day she came into dh and asked how to put on one of my earrings in her ears. Dh said he was sure she wanted them and didn't want her to put them in the ear canal and have to make a trip to the ER to have them removed. He said that would much worse than having them pierced in the first place. I still was unsure.
Waited awhile, but kept seeing babies and little girls w/cute earrings and I was finally ready. I asked our ped and she said to go ahead even at 2 + yrs old since mommy would be caring for them. She said the only problem with little girls ages 3-5 are they want them, but fail to care for them properly. She gave me some suggestions to prepare Sandi including some OTC meds to minimize any discomfort from the piercing. I was convinced and scheduled Sandi to have her ears pierced again. I promised myself I wouldn't back out this time and Sandi would come home with little earrings and look soO cute.
She did really well, only cried for a minute on the 2nd ear. I honestly think I was more of a baby. I cried because I had a moment of "I'm the world's worst mother for putting holes in my child's ears." I'm not quite over that yet, but they do look really cute on her, so I'm starting to get more used to them and she loves them.
If your still thinking your dd would look cute with earrings and are ready to try again, then send me an e-mail and I'll give your our ped's suggestions for moms having their dd's ears pierced. Your mommy intution is telling now is best. Our ped's tips made the second time around and success and dh loves them :)
